Art is a Drag

Art is a Drag Friday, August 4, 2017 2:00pm 9:00pm Join UICA and artists Kaylee Britton (Salem Massacre) and Rachel Britton (Jack Dup) for a day-long celebration of the art of drag. Enjoy a live drag-show, multiple performances, and a behind-the-scenes look into how performers apply makeup to transform into their lively personas. Take part in the fun by dressing in your best drag ensemble and participate in a costume contest. Gallery and event admission is free in association with Avenue for the Arts’ First Fridays beginning at noon. Schedule of Events: 2:00 - 6:00 pm: Drop-in anytime between 2:00 - 6:00 pm and watch as performers apply makeup and prepare for the evening. Enjoy an open discussion with Kaylee Britton (Salem Massacre) and Rachel Britton (Jack Dup) and explore the works on view in the UICA galleries. UICA’s 5th Floor Galleries 6:30 - 7:00 pm: Hear opening remarks by Kaylee Britton (Salem Massacre) and Rachel Britton (Jack Dup) and interact with the performers. A cash bar and light refreshments will be available on UICA’s outdoor terrace. UICA’s 5th Floor Galleries + BISSELL Outdoor Terrace 7:00 - 8:00 pm: Enjoy a drag show featuring local artists and performers. UICA’s 5th Floor Galleries 8:00 - 9:00 pm: Meet and mingle with the performers and ask questions during a Q&A session with local artists. Strut your stuff with a costume contest judged by the audience and performers. The first place winner will take home a fine art photography print by Kaylee Britton (Salem Massacre) and Rachel Britton (Jack Dup). UICA’s 5th Floor Galleries Donations can be made the night of the event to support Kaylee Britton and Rachel Britton’s upcoming trip to the Austin International Drag Festival.
